STALE AMSTERDAM's original portraits are created with a unique dripping technique and often consist of more than 40 layers, using liters of acrylic paint. Working closely with alta™ Creative Studio, STALE AMSTERDAM has created a series of original monoprints using Arius' ADMF data and techniques to meld analog and digital creation, resulting in a unique series of Elegraph monoprints.

While traditionally trained artists use a brush, STALE literally pours liters of paint onto a canvas. Often consisting of more than 40 layers of precisely mixed colours, his masterpieces slowly transform into remarkable portraits.
The faces of many icons have graced canvases in STALE’s Amsterdam studio, from Marilyn Monroe and Clint Eastwood, to Albert Einstein and Salvador Dali. It’s undoubtedly impressive to see the world’s most loved names represented so perfectly with this unique application.
STALE explains how the layers of paint are strategically applied to build up over time, through a sense of sculpting the facial features, shadows and highlights. Such sophistication means there is no room for correction. Witnessing STALE’s intricate and complex process is almost as captivating as seeing a finished piece.

Working with Arius' alta Creative Studio is really special and it has been an eye-opening experience. Arius is not only a technology and scanning company. They are also very creative. We have been working on the concept for these Elegraph Prints since we first met in 2019.

This special collection of Elegraph prints represents a new body of work for STALE AMSTERDAM, who up until this point had never been able to develop textured prints that truly represent the intricate details of his original works.
