Our residency program consists of a collaboration with an alta Master Printer and the Lower East Side Printshop to produce 4 Elegraph editions, of 15 prints and 2 artist proofs each. The editions will be part of a 4-week rotating exhibition, featuring 4-6 artists in New York City and an Art 21 co-hosted event in November 2018.
alta will cover the production costs for the edition, marketing, and exhibition costs, plus the artist will receive a stipend.
The residency will start in May 2018 and must be completed by August 2018.

Established in 2017, alta is a digital studio and fine art publisher providing artists with a new creative medium called Elegraph™ printmaking. We enable artists across all disciplines to create 2.5D, unique or editioned, Elegraph™ prints, which fuse physical mediums with digital printing techniques. We're an active supporter of the arts and are the lead sponsor for Art21’s Extended Play Series.
Staying true to the preciousness of a relationship between an artist and a master printer, alta seeks not to change the printmaking world, but to explore and broaden the creative possibilities of printmaking.
This new printmaking platform allows artists to manually work with a physical source (such as a painting or collage), before exploring ways to serve their artistic vision through digital intervention, manipulation, and transformation - combining a physical input with virtual mediums. The result is the creation of textured, varied editions.
Through collaboration, we strive to empower artists to develop unique processes on a platform that has infinite capabilities. Together, we want to inspire the artistic community to explore the Elegraph™ medium and develop new ways of collaborating to create distinctive results.
Eligibility is limited to artists already living and working in New York City. Prior printmaking experience is not required and artists working in other media are greatly encouraged to submit.
Selection is based on artistic merit determined by an independent 5-person blind jury, consisting of art world professionals.
Residency listing is also live on NYFA. All applications must be submitted via email by or before April 8, 2018 11:59 PM PDT. All applicants will receive an automatic email response after successfully completing their application. The alta residency winner will be notified and posted on the www.alta.art website in Summer 2018. Please do not call the office for selection results.
